Cobia range along the entire Florida coastline, and forage in a great variety of waters, from shallow coastal bays to offshore wrecks as deep as 200 feet. They generally prefer water temps above 68 degrees, and that mark seems to correspond with seasonal movements, north in spring, and south in fall. Most every port has its cobia hotspots, but for the biggest fish (occasionally over 100 pounds) it’s hard to beat the stretch from Panama City through Pensacola. Excellent flats fishing is available during cooler months in the Lower Florida Keys, and during spring and early summer in Pine Island Sound, Tampa Bay and other Gulf bays. Great fishing on east coast beaches and wrecks and spectacular sight fishing during manta ray migration.
